Who Will Survive?

I've been watching the 70's BBC tv series Survivors lately (unfortunately it's about to be remade...I'm sorry Re-Imagined) and it deals with some hard issues of what to do, and who to save in the event of an unstoppable spread of a deadly and incurable virus. So today, a task force of doctors has decided to write up a list of who should and who shouldn't get care.

-People older than 85.

-Those with severe trauma, which could include critical injuries from car crashes and shootings.

-Severely burned patients older than 60.

-Those with severe mental impairment, which could include advanced Alzheimer's disease.

-Those with a severe chronic disease, such as advanced heart failure, lung disease or poorly controlled diabetes.

It even gets more specific than that. All of this is interesting when you combine it with bird-flu, China's earthquake and so on lately. Worth reading.
