Apple's iPhone Gets Downright Scary
Pinch Media is about to release a software tool for developers called Pinch Analytics which among tracking how long you may use ANY software that has Pinch Analytics in it, will also keep track of WHERE YOU ARE and report it back to the developers.
Note that all this data is aggregated and nothing is traceable back to an individual user. So while the developers might learn that their users on average use their application 4x a day for 23 seconds, they certainly don't learn that Joe in Idaho used it for 8x on Monday and for exactly how long. They might learn that the application has 23 users near New York City, but never learn that you used it at 916 Broadway.
Also note that built into Apple's framework is an opt-in mechanism that provides more protection and consent to the indvidual user than the desktop.
