Documentaries

I think I've hit upon a common problem documentaries suffer from lately. Take "Welcome to Macintosh", a documentary about the history of Apple and specifically the Macintosh.

From what I've seen thus far, the documentary is little more than a series of talking head interviews interspersed with fun footage. Their claim of having 99% original material in the documentary is our first suspicious clue. When documentarians relegate their material to this format the resulting documentary ends up being little more than what amounts to visual comments on a blog post. It's like one long series of video responses to a popular youtube video.

Sad really. One interview was done over iChat and that's embarrassing.

Documentaries shouldn't just create new ground, they should go back over old ground and media looking at things in new ways and making connections that were missed prior.

And bring some lights with ya.

I think I see what you mean. Still this looks like something I'd like to check out. Is this docu going to be online?

I think they plan on only selling DVD's of it which mean, yes, it'll be online as soon as someone buys a DVD and rips it :)
